ColdFusion Job Opportunity in San Antonio, TX

The Programmer/Web Application Developer, under the supervision of the Chief Technology Officer, designs, codes, administers, and documents data-driven web systems. These systems are developed utilizing ColdFusion and SQL with the addition of HTML, CSS, jQuery, to control formatting and display. This position is part of the Development Services team and report to the Chief Technology Officer.

Bachelor degree or equivalent years of work experience in ColdFusion programming, web design, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and/or related technologies.


  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the use of ColdFusion to develop web applications.
  • Knowledge of web markup tools and languages; HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XML preferred.
  • Experience in developing, writing and using SQL queries.
  • Experience with graphic design software and an ability to visually judge the quality and effectiveness of graphics and visual content.
  • Ability to work with campuses and departments in planning applications to address business needs and solve business problems.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to train users and present to small and large audiences.
  • Understands and leverages the principles of project management.


  • Analyze user needs and program customized solutions to meet those needs.
  • Develop, write, test and maintain software to support or interact with the database systems in accordance with security policies and standards.
  • Develops technical architecture of web applications including scripting, database design and user interface design.
  • Develops, codes, installs, tests, debugs and documents web-based applications.
  • Develop program utilities to automate processes.
  • Utilizes ColdFusion, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, and SQL as appropriate for each project.
  • Works with Database Administrator to design and develop processes, databases, and data flow between systems.
  • Develop program utilities to automate processes.
  • Support planning and design application functionality based upon business and technical requirements and will assist customers in understanding software and hardware needs.
  • Ongoing support for applications including installation, testing, quality assurance, upgrades and patches.
  • Support customers on complex technical issues (day end processing, client/server software installation, database administration, and configuration management).
  • Respond to clients within time frame dictated by the severity of the problem, document and track (case histories, issues, and action steps).
  • Research technical processes using sources such as error logs and product technical documentation, and identify solutions to resolve problems or improve efficiency.
  • Develops and maintains documentation on customized applications.
  • Maintains confidentiality as it pertains to the position and data.
  • Consults with employees from various departments and campuses in order to coordinate projects, identify needs, and explain opportunities.
  • Trains staff on new or existing web applications.
  • Secures and manages access to information as appropriate.
  • Remains current on job specific knowledge (e.g., scripting, hardware, software, security issues, authoring tools, graphic design tools, new languages, etc.) and industry trends by attending training courses/seminars and professional organizational meetings and conferences and reading job-related professional journals/publications.
  • Keeps the district current on technologies to implement as new web technologies advance.
  • Work with internal and external IT staff to implement, maintain, and trouble shoot web and related systems.
  • Prepares utilization and status reports as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
