ColdFusion Job Opportunity in Maine, ME

The Web Developer works within one or more project teams to develop, maintain, and enhance web-based software applications. This position works remotely from home but may be required to attend occasional meetings in the Augusta or Rockland areas. This position requires the ability to work effectively with a team of remote developers, project managers, etc., using instant messaging, web conferencing, Skype, SharePoint, version control, and other tools. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring the abilities to work independently, communicate well, and meet deadlines with attention to detail and quality. We are looking for someone flexible to work with a variety of technologies and platforms and eager to learn new technologies.


  • Design, develop, modify, test, and support web applications including database, middle tier, and user interface components.
  • Design, develop, modify, test, and support web applications including database, middle tier, and user interface components.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams.
  • Apply industry and company best practices to meet project requirements and deadlines.
  • Modify existing software to correct errors, apply enhancements, or to improve its performance.
  • Analyze user and business needs and software requirements to design solutions.
  • Implement software system testing and validation procedures.
  • Develop clear technical software/system documentation.


  • Creatively identify and test technical solutions to business problems.
  • Monitor applications after implementation and recommend enhancements to improve performance.
  • Keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to the job.
  • Communicate professionally with the Director of Operations, project managers, peers, and clients via e-mail, telephone, in person, or using other tools.
  • Learn new languages and technologies as they emerge and are a match to Penobscot Bay Media’s core business.


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with web application programming and website development using ColdFusion, Java/JSP/Spring, HTML5, XML, CSS, and JavaScript (jQuery, AngularJS, AJAX),
  • Knowledge of Agile Development as well as traditional development methodologies.
  • Database development experience using Sybase, Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience using any or all of these: Eclipse, Subversion, Mercurial, Ant and/or Nant, Apache Tomcat, Microsoft IIS, Oracle DB utilities, Microsoft SQL Server utilities.
  • Knowledge of Section 508 (accessibility) requirements and how to meet those requirements using HTML and in PDF.
  • Knowledge of content management systems and unit testing tools is desirable but not required.
