Job description:
The Senior Systems Analyst is responsible for analyzing business needs, defining requirements, developing solutions, implementing systems, and managing installed applications in support of the Sign on Simplification Program at Children’s Hospital. The Senior Systems Analyst, Web Developer will have a thorough understanding of Web Technologies, Delivery Methods, Source Code Management, and Best Practice Coding and Deployment Methodologies. The Senior Systems Analyst will be a leader with the ability to mentor less senior staff and assist in defining or guiding process to better ensure top quality delivery.

Responsibilities:

  1. Systems Analysis and Support
    • Plans, designs, develops, tests, implements, and supports information systems to meet organizational needs.
    • Provides customer service to define business needs and translate those needs into system functionality requirements.
    • Provides analysis on system design specifications and system/product evaluation.
    • Provides system coding and programming as required.
    • Develops and implements data queries and reports as needed.
    • Creates and maintains high quality system, report, and interface test scripts.
    • Assures data integrity and system survivability by developing and maintaining Disaster Recovery plans for the identity management systems, understands and approves back up procedures, tests DR plans and system restores, and maintains current data in DR databases and tools.
    • Determines and defines necessary budget items to support assigned systems.
    • Coordinates IS resources for project and operational support.
    • Develops system documentation.
    • Provides effective user training and support.
    • Provides troubleshooting, problem analysis, debugging, and resolution of assigned system issues.
    • Performs system updates, patches, service releases, and upgrades as needed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  2. IS Operational Support
    • Utilizes IS Operational support systems to include the Help Desk, Change Control, Problem Management, source and version control, and other systems as required; leads the development of these systems through feedback and analysis, and assists in enforcing the support and use of these systems throughout IS.
    • Builds and maintains vendor relationships to ensure products and/or services meet the business needs and objectives of the Hospital.
    • Works to minimize systems outages and the effects of outages on Hospital users by scheduling needed system downtimes to provide minimal disruption of service to users, proactively monitoring and analyzing system performance to proactively detect and resolve production system issues, and performing stringent system testing before implementing new solutions or system changes.
    • Sets the example for providing fiscal responsibility in the use of Hospital resources by designing, implementing, and maintaining solutions to best utilize those resources in areas of responsibility.
  3. Project Management
    • Knowledgeable of the Children’s Hospital IS Project Management Office (PMO) methodologies to include familiarity with defined project phases and project deliverables.
    • Leads projects that are small to mid-size in complexity, scope, and cost involving a limited number of IS departments or customers.
    • Leads project reporting, schedules project execution, and facilitates meetings.
    • Actively seeks assistance and guidance from the PMO on project execution.
  4. Information Assurance
    • Knowledgeable of and adheres to Children’s Hospital policies, processes, procedures, standards, and guidelines governing privacy, security, and disaster recovery/business continuity.
    • Develops, implements, and/or maintains systems following IS Information Assurance policies, processes, procedures, and guidelines and industry standards to address security, privacy, and disaster recovery/business continuity needs to protect Children’s Hospital information and resources at established, defined levels.
    • Actively protects sensitive, classified, and confidential information.
    • Uses and accesses systems and information only for authorized purposes and in accordance with security procedures and guidelines to perform job duties as assigned.
    • Maintains individual accountability for security controls and measures (e.g., individual passwords are not shared with other users).
    • Reports suspected security and/or privacy incidents following established Children’s Hospital procedures.
    • Follows established procedures to conduct reviews and audits of systems and information for assigned areas of responsibility.
    • Maintains systems to keep information and resources secure and safe from known vulnerabilities to include updating applications and systems with security patches and code updates, applying appropriate virus protection, and testing changes before placing into production environments.
    • Assists Information Assurance staff in the development and refinement of Information Assurance standards, policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines.
  5. Teamwork, Collaboration, Professionalism, and Leadership
    • Sets the example and provides leadership when working with other IS staff in functional or cross-functional teams to meet goals, objectives, and responsibilities.
    • Sets the example in establishing and maintaining a professional demeanor and being accountable for their performance.
    • Sets the example for establishing a team atmosphere within IS and other Hospital departments by interacting with others in an honest and straightforward manner, listening to and valuing the opinions and ideas of others, sharing knowledge, and helping others to accomplish goals.
    • Develops and maintains expert level knowledge and skills in technical and professional areas.
    • Mentors and trains IS staff members in areas of specialty.

Other information:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  1. At least 7 years experience providing systems analysis support required. Experience in health care environments preferred.
  2. Bachelor Degree in related Computer Science areas or equivalent experience required.
  3. Proficiency in ColdFusion (9+) preferred.
  4. Proficiency in another web language (PHP, .NET, Java) with the willingness to learn ColdFusion acceptable.
  5. Proficiency in HTML and CSS.
  6. Proficiency in the use of scripting languages (mainly: JavaScript)
  7. Understanding of database systems, SQL and data modeling principles.
  8. Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills required to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  9. Excellent project management skills required with a minimum of 4 years project management experience.
  10. Strong skills in use of PC desktop applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  11. Ability to work flexible schedules to meet job requirements; requires occasional after-hours support and overnight travel.
