Job Description

NES is searching for a strong Senior Applications Developer with excellent skills developing and maintaining Web-based applications in Java or ColdFusion. The position will involve design and programming of new applications, including external interfaces. The candidate will work directly with an integrated scrum team, and therefore experience working with successful agile teams is preferred.  Knowledge of Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) concepts for effective development and implementation, including disciplined testing of software enhancements and maintenance activities, is required. The candidate will participate in the full SDLC with emphasis on coding, testing, documentation, and production support. This is a mid-level to advanced opportunity.  The candidate will work at the client’s location in Alexandria, VA.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. At least 8 years of experience in the development and maintenance of web-based applications. Experience in integrating with external systems using a variety of methods, including XML, web services, or file transfer schemes.

At a Minimum the candidate will have 4 years of experience developing in Java/ColdFusion, JavaScript (and libraries), jQuery, AJAX, JSON, XML, and CSS, minimum 2+ years of experience with Oracle SQL and relational databases. Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.

Required Experience

  • Experience with architectural and design patterns in software such as Struts MVC and Singletons
  • Experience with Java Persistence frameworks such as Hibernate
  • Strong debugging skills
  • Strong SQL skills
  • Experience writing Web Services using protocols such as REST or (SOAP and WSDL)
  • Experience writing test code using frameworks such as jUnit
  • Experience in the performance tuning of applications
  • Version Control (CVS, Subversion)
  • Successful contributor to an independent self-managed scrum team
